Ohh yes.. we will soon be the proud owners of one of these little pricey accessories. Alex had his six-month appointment with Katie from Utah School of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and with Candi Brown the Nebo School District Audiologist. We overhauled and refreshed his hearing aide and did some booth testing. He did score slightly better than the last time we were there but still with moderate hearing loss on the left and severe on the right without his aide in. Katie is sending some information on funding options for us to purchase our own hearing aide. Alex just wears an aide on the left side for now since that is the least problematic side. It may be years before we are able to amplify the right side due to narrow canals and drainage issues.
I was somewhat dissapointed in the results. I had felt that he was starting to hear better but it may be just that he is getting older and is starting to understand better.
Sooo.. another six months on the loaner from the USDB then we'll be in it for the long haul with our own hearing aide. Not exactly what we have been hoping for but it's better still than the alternative of being completely deaf.
