Well today is the first day we start with Melanie. She is the new audiologist with the PIP program for Alex with the School of the Deaf, Blind, and Hard of Hearing. Karen is staying in the Orem area to cover the area around where she lives and so Melanie will be our new audiologist. I was so proud of Alex last visit with Karen, he did all the imitating that we have been working on since at least January. He passed off every goal and so we are back to making a new goal list. As long as he continues progressing we get to keep the hearing aide paid for by the school. I think we are about due again for new mold for the aide though this one we have seems to be getting too small. I think we are about due for another booth test again too. We saw Gibb last month and he told us one of the tubes was about halfway out so it looks like we'll be in again before the end of the year for a new set.

Today Melanie was working on listening skills with Alex and trying some new signs. We have decided to go full throttle with the signing along with vocal cues to eventually just speech but for now Alex is so far behind in his speech that we are having to play catch up. He still does not clearly say any specific word but has begun to show understanding to the signs I have been using repeatedly. Looks like I need to get learning some more signs cause it seems to be the short-term communication key for Alex.
